Tilly's Dream comes true

They say "one swallow doth not a summer make" and I'm not really sure why I am using that analogy when it is December next week, but Tilly's Dream was a welcome shot in the arm for an otherwise poor set of results recently. The filly was back to a mark of 68 at which she won over 5f in June. So I felt she was in with a good shout, and would be a value bet at 20/1 or better. She was 16/1 when the market opened on course, and there was plenty of money available at prices over 20/1 on the exchanges. Obviously the market also felt she was over-priced and by the time the race started she had been backed right in to 8/1

There were no lay bets to report, and so a profit of 20 points for the day.

Monday horse racing summary

I still cannot buy a winner it seems, having found just one winner from my last fifteen bets. Its a consolation that we are simply giving back profit made earlier in the month, but certainly this will mean nothing to anyone joining in the last week or two, and is seeing their bankroll in free-fall. I had just one back-to-win bet today, and it was unplaced.

On the other hand, my lay bets are performing extremely well, and showing more than 30 points profit this month. Today I wanted to oppose Viking Rebel at Ayr. It was his first race in public and you never quite know how a horse will react, so when I saw I could lay bets at even money I was happy to take the risk. He performed well and won the race, but for a single point there was no real damage done. My other two lay bets were successful and I gained 2 points profit overall.

So, at the end of the afternoon I had scored a single point profit, but my back-to-win form remains a major concern for me.

Sunday horse racing summary and weekly results

How the fortunes can change when betting horses. Last week I reported over 30 points profit, yet this week, certainly as regards finding winners, I would not be able to recognise one if it smacked me in the face!

This afternoon I drew a blank, with three bets going down.

I successfully overturned Olay Olay at Aintree, but then when I went against Gansey for a couple of points, the horse won the race. So I was down a point on the Lay account too.

Over the last 7 days I have scored just 2 winners from 17 bets, and the account has suffered to the tune of 8.5 points. The Lay bets have fared better, with 6 successful bets from 11, and a profit of 4 points.

On the plus side, if good weeks return 30 points profit, and bad weeks mean a loss of around 4 points, then the overall trend is a rosy one.

Profit for the week: Win Bets 8.5 pts loss, Lay Bets 4 pts

Wednesday horse racing summary

A profitable day overall, but due only to my lay bets. I had two back-to-win bets which both lost.

A very good day opposing favourites, with a successful bet against red hot favourite Ouzbeck being of particular note. He finished 3rd in a similar event, some 13 lengths behind the winner, and recently had a win in a class 5 maiden event. So he had only beaten horses that had never won themselves, and in a race in a lower class than today. So why he was priced odds-on was incredible. what truly beggards belief is that punters were willing to accept such ridiculously short odds. I went against him for 6 points at odds of 4/6 which meant i could increase my stakes further still by a factor of 1.5 This big bet was vindicated when he finished 2nd and afforded me 9 points profit.

I did get it wrong when Tot O Whiskey won at 4/11F but this did little damage to the account and overall I made 4 points clear profit for the day.

New eBook from Henry McAnenly

I've just finished reading Henry McAnenly's latest betting guide called "Going The Extra Mile - the secrets of the gambling stables". I have highlighted Henry's superb books in the past, and once again he has found a way to gain an advantage over the bookmakers.

I don't need to go into too much detail about the system outlined in the book, as you can get a free sneak preview at the web site:

www.Profits4Punters.com

Suffice to say that Henry has hit upon an approach that doesn't rely upon the usual form indicators. He looks closer at how particular trainers prepare a horse for a stable 'gamble', and helps you recognise when these profitable betting opportunities are about to take place. It's a fresh approach and a unique angle that will give you the edge, and make this system profitable.

For those of you not familiar with the name Henry McAnenly, he is a freelance racing journalist and expert author of several best-selling betting guides. He regular writes articles and features for the racing media.

This latest book "Going The Extra Mile" gets my strongest recommendation.

Tuesday horse racing summary

A losing day today, with a dent of over 3 points in the account. I had three win bets, and all three failed to score a return. El Coto was contesting a lowly class 6 seller at Wolverhampton. He has tumbled down the weights recently and I felt his time to score a win again must be due, especially in such a low class event. He turned in another poor performance and I suspect will prove expensive to follow until an upturn in form is recorded.

I gained 2 points profit by successfully overturning Kid Charlemagne at 11/10F However I gave that all back, and a little more, when Master at Arms won.

Monday horse racing summary

A good return from the back-to-win bets today. From eight proposed bets, 3 were final selections having reached my value prices, and I scored a winner in Aegean Dancer. 11/2 was widely available early on, and he was sent off at 7/2

My one lay bet took money from me this afternoon however. Dhehdaah was contesting a handicap hurdle race at Leicester, and racing off his highest ever handicap mark. To win today would require a lifetime best performance and I thought he was worth opposing at below 4/1 He justified favouritism and won at 5/2 to prove me wrong.

Which left me with but a single point profit for the day overall.

Sunday horse racing summary and weekly results

Similar to yesterday betting opportunities I found scarce, and I only found one potential bet to post today. I found nothing I was willing to oppose, but I did put forward Nawamees as a back-to-win bet. He has been competing for the most part in class 3 handicap hurdle races this year, so by all accounts a class 5 event should have been well within his compass. However, I put a price of 7/4 on his head and I'm glad I did, because he has definitely gone off the boil and finished third. He didn't get to my value price and so was a 'no bet'. Only bet when you have value odds on your side, no matter how assured you may think you are about a winner.

So there was no movement on the account today, and a quiet end to what was otherwise a pretty spectacular week, returning over 31 points profit. The Back-to-Win account produced 5 winners from 15 bets and a fraction under 17 points profit. Whilst the Lay-to-Lose account returned 8 successful bets from 10 and just under 15 points profit.

Profit for the week: Win Bets 16.5 pts, Lay Bets 14.5 pts

Blazing Bailey fizzles out

A wealth of racing action on show today, but it was very difficult to find many good value betting opportunities. Rare for a Saturday afternoon I ended up putting forward just two bets. My back-to-win selection was nothing original when I put up Franchoek at Cheltenham. But he did drift a little so we could grab some 6/4 before his price contracted to 6/5 and he came home powerfully to win.

I decided to go against a big friend of ours Blazing Bailey, also at Cheltenham. BB has won for us before at Cheltenham, albeit that time at terrific value at 14's I think. This time his price was too low, and actually made for a good bet to lay. The last time he won in handicap company was off a mark of 147 and in a lower grade. Up in class today, and carrying over a stone more, I thought this would be a big ask. I layed him for 3 points at 5/2 and he was the last horse across the line.

A useful 4.5 points to put in the satchel this afternoon.

Quaddick Lake is sunk

I managed a small profit with my win bets this afternoon, scoring one from three with One More Round early on at Lingfield.

But it was three out of three with my lay bets, and three race favourites overturned. Quaddick Lake had raced only once before - when he fell in a class 3 maiden hurdle. Why was he the favourite for this class 1 race? I was against him for 4 points, and it was like taking candy from a baby when he was the last of the nine runners to finish.

Just under 9 points profit overall for our work this afternoon.

Cassia Heights top of the pile

A wholly satisfying two wins from three bets this afternoon, including Cassia Heights a winner and plundered at 9/1 on the exchanges. Cassia Heights was contesting similar events to this last year, but carrying over a stone more in weight than today. Having tumbled that far in the weights I felt that the market price of 15/2 was too high compared to his chance of winning. 9/1 was available on Betfair and a value bet too good to miss.

No lay bets to report today, just a tasty 12 point profit.

That's my Girl

No real movement on the account today as my back-to-win bets made a slight loss, whilst I successfully overturned a race favourite for a single point profit. There were good words eminating from the Hobbs yard that Shanxi Girl had improved greatly for her debut run over hurdles, and would handle today's step up in class at Exeter. So I proposed her as a good bet at better than 7/4 She was not a comfortable winner this afternoon, but a winner none-the-less, and showed signs she could be useful over longer distances.

I layed Guto successfully at Catterick to complete something of a nondescript day.

UCantLose Arbitrage Service

You may well have heard about sports arbitrage, but never been quite sure exactly what it’s all about. You’ve heard that arbitrage means you can strike a series of bets and whatever the result of an event you will make a profit.

Guaranteed profit, whatever happens!

Whenever you discover an ‘arb’ opportunity -- it’s like uncovering a little nugget of gold. You manage to find an event priced up by a number of different bookmakers, perhaps it’s a football match, such that if you take various prices you will profit no-matter who wins, or even if it’s a draw.

I have been interested in risk-free arbitrage betting (arbs) for a number of years. However, I found I never really made much money because the trouble is it can be quite time-consuming to unearth all the ‘arbing’ opportunities. Eventually, I realised the best way to make money from arbs is to join a service that will find the arbs for you.

I have joined a number of arb services in the past but they have all been very expensive and the arbs they sent were either low yielding or the odds had already changed by the time I received the arbs.

Around 6 months ago a friend recommended a service to me called UCantLose and they are totally different!!

Their arbs are generally of the highest quality, and very profitable. You see, they limit the number of members they accept, so when they send out an arb there are not thousands of people rushing to get money on, meaning that the odds stay stable for longer -- this is very important!!

Visit the UCantLose web site at www.UCantLose.co.uk

They guarantee to send at least 50 arbs per month but they always send much more than that (I usually receive between 50 and 100). They promise to refund that month’s membership fee should they fail to send out 50 arbs in a month. You also get the option to receive arbs via email or a text message sent direct to your mobile phone.

UCantLose is much more than just an arb service. I call them my little ‘gambling gophers’ because they also send daily hints and tips to help you make more profit from your every day gambling. They also find the best gambling deals on the internet (such as free bets, joining bonuses, free trials etc) and send them direct to my inbox -- very handy!!

I wanted to let you know about UCantLose today because I know they are currently accepting new members. If the idea of sports arbitrage appeals to you, then at the very least you should pay a visit to their web site to find out more. Places will be strictly limited so you need to act fast to ensure you do not miss out.

Do you know your handicaps from your conditions races?

Considering bookmakers pay differing amounts on each way bets, depending on whether a race is a handicap or a conditions race, it is well worth knowing the difference.

My latest article is a 'beginners guide' to handicap races, and you can read the full story at this link:

Friday horse racing summary

I ended up incuring a small loss today, after Mighty Moose spoiled the party started by Black Rain at Newmarket. In the first race Black Rain came home in front having been sent off at 3/1. I had two subsequent losers, but managed to overturn the favourite in the 1:55 Insaaf for an extra point.

But then I was opposing Mighty Moose in the handicap chase at Uttoxeter. He won a similar contest at Chepstow back in March, but today he was to carry a full 13lbs extra weight. I felt sure this would be enough to reign him in, but he justified 5/2 favouritism, snatching the day's profits and a bit more for good measure.

Debonnaire struts her stuff

They say marriage is all about 'give and take' well it's true, I give and my wife takes... (Jimmy Tarbuck 1975). This afternoon saw some give and take too. I gave out six potential bets and four of them qualified as bets as my value prices were reached. From these four, I found two winners which returned just under 8 points profit on the betting exchanges. I had word from the Mark Johnston yard that Debonnaire had improved considerably from her two previous runs, and was likely to be there or thereabouts. She just got home at 4/1 with plenty of 9/2 available on Betfair.

Then I gave most of it back when one of my lay bets Capricorn Run won at Lingfield. Hats off to Seb Sanders who timed his run to perfection to get up on the line, just when I thought I would collect 3 points. Shows why he is one of the best jockeys around at the moment. I did score a point with my other lay bet.

So in the end a fraction under 2 points profit to take home, and if I did that every day of the week I guess I wouldn't complain.
