Tuesday horse racing summary

Days like today make me wish I hadn't given up transcendental meditation! I'm joking, but I could sure do with some slow controlled breathing right now. I proposed six win bets this morning, and I managed a winner with Misbehaviour at Fontwell. But I also had two horses finish in second spot, both at a tasty 7/1 and both going down by just a neck when they could just as easily have won. Never mind (performs repetitive yoga chant....)

I also suffered my first unsuccessful lay bet of the month. I wanted to oppose Bougereau at Pontefract this afternoon, if for no other reason than I rarely think a horse in a maiden is worth backing at odds-on. But apart from the fact that this horse had no winning form I found a few other reasons to oppose him. He had not run since last September so there may be questions to answer about fitness. He was stepping up in trip to 10f and the ground was a little softer than he had raced on before. 4/9 to me seemed too low a price to resist laying, and I went against him for 5 points. I was proven wrong, and the colt won quite comfortably. But over the course of a season these types of bet will prove profitable to the layers.

Overall a loss of more than 6 points to the account, so I am off to a pilates class to forget about it.

Do NOT buy Cracking The Placepot

Until you have read this....

Last summer I reviewed an eBook by Paul Whelan called "Cracking The Placepot" and those of you who have been receiving my newsletter for some time will probably remember I got pretty excited about this system.

If you are in a hurry you can jump straight to the web site to see what this is all about:

http://www.crackingtheplacepot.co.uk

Well I got an email from Paul recently, asking me what I thought of his new web site. "Don't you think it's kind of FUNKY?" is what he said. Well, I will leave it up to you what you think of the new layout. I was more interested in how the "Cracking The Placepot" system was performing.

Paul informed me that the results were still very consistent and had returned more than a few VERY BIG dividends since we last spoke.

If you are unfamiliar with this system or indeed the Placepot, perhaps I should recap a little? "Cracking The Placepot" is an eGuide Paul has developed to show you how to win regularly when playing the Tote Placepot bets. For those of you unfamiliar with the Placepot, it is a pool bet. The stake of everyone taking part goes into a ‘pool’ to create a ‘prize fund’.

The winners of the Placepot share this prize ‘pool’. It’s a bit like the National Lottery.

To win the Placepot you must correctly pick a horse in each of six races at a meeting to win or place.

Just like the National Lottery, the Placepot is well known for paying out very large dividends on quite a regular basis. When he set out to develop a winning Placepot system, Paul's mission was to try to identify when the biggest payouts were likely to occur, and which horses should be pick as selections.

The result of quite some study was that he DID manage to uncover some trends which led him to develop the system behind "Cracking The Placepot". Paul was also so confident that the system worked, that he offered a full refund to anyone who didn’t win the Placepot within one week of of purchasing the book.

I asked Paul about the original Guarantee and he was keen to let me know he is STILL just as confident about the system, and still offering the Guarantee – win the Placepot within your first week, or get a full refund!

Brand new this year to the web site, is a free sneak preview to the book. All you have to do when you visit the site is leave your email address, and you will receive the free preview.

If you didn't take a look last year, I urge you to get straight over to the web site for more information:

I hope you enjoy reading Paul's preview to his best-selling eBook.

High N Dry floats my boat

More than 12 points profit cleared this afternoon, thanks to a couple of very good value bets. I had six win bets today, and both High N Dry at Lingfield, and Forty Acers at Market Rasen came home winners at 8/1 and 15/2 respectively.

Ocarito was contesting a class 4 handicap hurdle at Market Rasen, having failed to chalk up a win for nearly three years. Despite a recent 2nd place in a class 5 event, he hasn't showed any real signs of breaking his losing sequence, and I was happy to lay bets on him to lose at 5/2 or lower. He was the last horse to finish, and gave me a bonus profit point.

Tuesday horse racing summary

Having proposed six win bets this morning, today turned out to be something of an anti-climax. Back Among Friends was running in a handicap chase at Warwick, and to me seemed very well treated. He had turned in some improving performances this year, and an event like this seemed well within his compass. I backed him at 13/8 before he was eventually sent off the 5/4 favourite. He had fully justified his position at the top of the market, and only needed to jump the last fence to be sure of victory. You guessed it, he fell!

This happens and we have to take it on the chin. The remaining five bets all failed to reach my suggested value prices, so they go down as 'no bets', and with no lay bets put forward, I had nothing to regain our loss. Our solitary horse snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and I ended up a solitary point down on the day. Ho hum...

Monday horse racing summary

Price discipline saved my neck this afternoon, and meant I came out with a small profit rather than a nasty hole in my account. I proposed three win bets, and scored a winner with Blue Sky Thinking at Wolverhampton to give me 2 points profit overall.

I then focused my attention upon my proposed lay bet, which was Thebes in the 7f handicap at 4 o'clock. Thebes had run twice so far, latterly winning a class 5 maiden. However, this afternoon he was contesting a competitive handicap, and shouldering the penalty of top weight. Here was a horse that had only ever beaten horses who had not won themselves, giving weight to most of his rivals, and also stepping up in trip. Despite being an improving horse, I felt he would be good value if we could get matched to lay below 2.20 (6/5 in fractional odds)

He opened at 5/4 and drifted quite remarkably out to 7/4 but led the other horses a merry dance to win. At the prices he was too rich for me, and I kept my money in my pocket. I'm glad I did, and it goes to show that drifters do still win.

Green Gamble pays off

A couple of points profit to tuck away today after four bets produced two winners. Laredo Sound was a short priced winner at Lingfield, and then I followed up with Green Gamble and managed to get matched at 11/4 The gelding showed a return to form recently in a similar race, having slid down the weights a little, and I felt he was still good value even as the favourite. If he rises by more than 3 or 4 pounds in his next handicap he may find himself held again by the handicapper. But we got our value today when it counted, when our money was on him!

Profits are Honour High

A solid performance saw five bets return two winners, with the other three all runners-up (two of these but by a neck). I was keen to back Honour High in the novice hurdle at Fontwell because realistically the race stood to be contested between the top two in the market, and the money was following the favourite. Consequently the value lay with Honour High, who is comfortable with the course and scored in a similar race last time out.

The race was fought as expected, and on this occasion the bet was justified as we got the even money favourite beat.

This winner was following another in Cleymor House in the previous race, and I returned home 3 points better off.
