Welcome to the latest edition of my Newsletter. The main purpose of the monthly Newsletter is to summarize the results of the previous month, and to give you a "heads up" on any exciting news or events to come in the next few weeks.
With th St Leger now behind us the Jumps season will soon be in full swing. The first major race The Racing Post Trophy takes place at the end of this month at Doncaster. The all-weather tracks will also start to provide us with more entertainment, and if the wet summer was anything to go by, and turf meetings find themselves waterlogged, I am sure there will be many days when opportunities to profit from betting will only come from racing on the sand. This winter we can look forward to a bit more all-weather variety, as Great Leighs is now on the fixture list.

September Results
It may be a cliche, but September really was a game of two halves. Half way through the month and the profit line was like a very weak swimmer - just about keeping his head above water! But then we hit a purple patch and by the end of the month the Win Bets had returned a monumental profit of 73 points. The strike rate was nothing much above normal at 26% but what made the difference was six winners at double-figure prices. 21 winners from 82 bets.
Profits for the Lay bets were disappointing, although still they were profits and not losses. However, we never got more than 10 points in front, and ended up with a little under 5 points to put in the satchel. 20 successful Lay Bets from 26.
I'm always grateful for having the Win Bets AND the Lay Bets, as it invariably seems that when one is under-performing, the other is bringing home the bacon.

The trainer was giving last minute instructions to the jockey and appeared to slip something into the horse's mouth, just as a steward walked by.
"What was that?" inquired the steward. "Oh nothing" said the trainer, "just a polo".
He offered one to the steward and had one himself.
After the suspicious steward had left the scene the trainer continued with his instructions "Just keep on the rail. You are on a certainty. The only thing that could possibly pass you down the home straight is either the steward or me!"

Preview of TrainerTrackStats 2008/9
If it's September it means there is a new version of TrainerTrackStats, and this year is no different! If you are not familiar with TrainerTrackStats it is pretty much universally accepted as the best researched guide to trainer performance for the National Hunt season. It is updated every year by the authors Matt Bisogno and Gavin Priestley. The guide is probably the most consistent source of winners throughout the winter. Quite a number of big races to be enjoyed in June. This month we can look forward to the Derby at Epsom on Saturday. I've got my eye on a horse for the big race this week end, but on the Friday we also have the Oaks for the fillies. Of course later on this month we have Royal Ascot, an annual feast of flat racing and regularly a bountiful hunting ground for us. Riding the favourite at Cheltenham, the jockey is well ahead of the field. Suddenly he’s hit on the head by a turkey and a string of sausages.
He manages to keep control of his mount and pulls back into the lead, only to be struck by a box of Christmas crackers and a dozen mince pies as he goes over the last fence.
With great skill he manages to steer the horse to the front of the field once more when, on the run in, he’s struck on the head by a bottle of sherry and a Christmas pudding.
Thus distracted, he succeeds in coming only second. He immediately goes to the stewards to complain that he has been seriously hampered...

April Results
April proved to be quite unremarkable. In fact, for most of the middle of the month the profit seemed not to move one way nor the other. A few losers, a winner, back to where we were; then a few more losers, a winner, back to square one again, and so on. A couple of good value winners about a week from the end of the month meant we finished at around the twenty point mark, which is about, average.
However, my Lay Bets had a pathetic month, returning a seventeen point loss.
Come the end of the month I managed to get my head in front, for an overall profit of, wait for it, a meagre 6 points. Woo-hoo!! But then I did say in the last Newsletter I expected April to be difficult. The account still moves forward in the right direction, even if at a painfully slow pace. With the first of the Classics coming up this month, we should see the form start to settle, and results a little easier to predict with acceptable accuracy.

Betting Against Horses For Profit
Let me explain to you why a book I have read recently will help you take advantage of the betting exchanges.
Sporting Exchange Ltd was formed in 1999 to commercialise the betting technology developed by Andrew Black and Edward Wray. They created a web site where punters could be 'matched' with other punters who had opposing opinions, effectively betting against each other, and Betfair was born. It also heralded the opportunity for the average punter in the street to bet on horses to lose their race.
I remember thinking this was an unbelievable chance to make some serious money. Pick a horse to lose a race and you win your bet. "These guys must be crazy" I thought. "Anyone can pick a loser, its going to be easy to make money! Surely this site will go bust within weeks?"
At first, I started out by going through the Racing Post and selecting a horse that by the form-book had "absolutely no chance" of winning, and laying it to lose on Betfair. This 'system' worked fine for a while, until BANG!! a 25/1 chance popped up and won. Trouble was, the 25/1 horse was something like 40/1 on Betfair and I lost all my profit, plus more, all in one go. I guess it proved the old saying that "horses can't read form books".
Betfair had arrived, and it was a betting revolution that was here to stay.
I'm sure many of you will have had this experience yourselves. Turning a profit by laying horses to lose is not as easy as it first sounds. But, like all areas of betting the secret to success comes in getting some 'value' into your bet -- and the value in laying comes far more often than not, when you oppose the favourite.
I picked up a copy of "Betting Against Horses For Profit" by Henry McAnenly when it was voted the best betting guide in a Readers' Poll. As the title suggests, it focuses on laying horses to lose. Henry is a renowned professional gambler, and an expert author of several best-selling books on betting and horse racing. Since his latest offering was voted #1 Book I decided I should get myself a copy.
I have read his book, and it details a very sound system for identifying weak and vulnerable race favourites -- often referred to as 'false' favourites. Horses at short-prices that are not as sure to win as their price might suggest. Remember what I am always saying about making your betting pay by betting for value? Consistently lay horses at prices too short compared to their actual chance of winning, and you will make a profit just like the bookmakers have been doing for generations. Well having read Henry’s book, that is exactly what you will learn.

David Beckham decides to go horse riding. Although he has had no previous experience he skilfully mounts the horse and appears in complete command of the situation as the horse gallops along at a steady pace, Victoria admiringly watching her husband.
After a short time David becomes a little casual and he begins to lose his grip in the saddle, he panics and grabs the horse round the neck shouting for it to stop. Victoria starts to scream and shout for someone to help her husband as David has by this time slipped completely out of the saddle and is only saved from hitting the ground by the fact that he still has a grip on the horse's neck.
David decides that his best chance is to leap away from the horse, but his foot has become entangled in one of the stirrups. As the horse gallops along David's head is banging on the ground and he is slipping into unconsciousness. Victoria is now frantic and screams and screams for help!!
Hearing her screams, the Tesco Security Guard comes out of the store and unplugs the horse!

March Results
By contrast to February where we all experienced something of a 'profit roller-coaster' ride, March turned out to be a typically consistent, and solidly profitable month. Both services, the Back-To-Win Bets and the Lay-To-Lose Bets, performed well and in particular the Lay Bets.
The Lay Bets enjoyed a particularly successful month, with an 89% strike rate betting against mainly race favourites. Indeed the service was running with a 100% success rate until the 25th of the month. We suffered only 2 losing bets, and both of these were odds-on favourites, so a pat-on-the-back was well deserved I think.
April can sometimes prove to be a tricky month, as the Flat season starts and form is more difficult to assess. But hopefully we can repeat the results from this time last year when the Win Bets alone returned more than 30 points profit.

Betting Exchange Profits
When Jason Chesters approached me and declared arrogantly "Give Me A Computer And Access To The Betfair Website And I will Make £1089.24 Every Week - Tax FREE From Anywhere!...." I immediately crossed my arms sceptically and shook my head.
You see, if I don't get at least one such person peddling some hare-brained system each and every week, then it's usually because I've had problems with my email.
But then a close associate of mine asked if I had heard of this Betfair whizz-kid Jason Chesters, and how he was tearing it up on the betting exchanges. I decided to retrieve his email, and promptly asked for a demo of his system.

Henry McAnenly's new book "Going The Extra Mile"
I've just finished reading Henry McAnenly's latest betting guide called "Going The Extra Mile - the secrets of the gambling stables". I have highlighted Henry's superb books in the past, and once again he has found a way to gain an advantage over the bookmakers.

Suffice to say that Henry has hit upon an approach that doesn't rely upon the usual form indicators. He looks closer at how particular trainers prepare a horse for a stable 'gamble', and helps you recognise when these profitable betting opportunities are about to take place.
