Thursday horse racing summary

All my bets went against me today, putting a dent in profits this month, and leaving me a little glum this evening. I had four win bets all fail to win, and although two of these came in second, sadly we don't get paid on runners-up out of sympathy by the bookmakers. :-(

I was also opposing Night Rocket at Salisbury this afternoon. Her only win to date had been her maiden, at a class below today's race. So in handicap company, and stepping up in class, she would need to produce at the top of her form. I was counting she would have an off day, and actually I was attracted to the second favourite. I was happy to lay bets against her at 9/4 and she opened on course at 2/1 and even touched 15/8 before drifting a little to 5/2 at the off. But my bet was taken at 9/4 and so 2 and one-quarter points lost to the account.
