Tuesday horse racing summary

A frustrating afternoon where several of my proposed selections failed to reach my advised value prices. Wouldn't you know it, these went and won and we let them run unbacked. That's the downside of betting to value prices. There will be dozens of you insist that a 'winner is a winner' at any price. But the fact is that to make a long term profit you have to consistently get 'over the odds'. When we avoid short priced losers then the stakes and cash we save easily outweighs the profits lost by not backing short priced winners. My one bet Bene Lad came in second at 10/3

I was opposing Tenancy in the 6f handicap at Southwell. He hasn't been on form of late, and was racing off a mark still one pound over his only winning mark to date. So I was happy to lay him at 4/1 or shorter. He opened at 11/4 but I had already got matched at 7/2 before he duly lost again and gained me a point back.

Come the end of the afternoon there was no movement to show on the account, and I could have achieved the same result by doing nothing but soak up the sun in the garden! Never mind, there is always tomorrow.
