Fingers burned by Firestreak

If anyone was in the Tring area today, and heard a resounding "thud" it was the sound of me crashing back down to earth. I've enjoyed a substantial profit injection over the last few days, but this afternoon it was time to wake up and smell the coffee as the reality that is betting on horses hit home.

I proposed four Win bets, and all four lost. I suggested two horses to oppose, and they both won.

Firestreak lined up in the class 2 classified stakes over 7f at Goodwood this afternoon. He had one win to his name, his maiden at class 4 last summer. So he had only ever won a race in which no other horse had won either, and two classes below today's race. His two outings this year were both also below this class. Yet he was this morning's race favourite, trading around the 2/1 and 9/4 mark. To win today would require a career best performance by some margin, and I felt he was good value to get overturned. How wrong can you be? And it's a shame nobody thought to tell the horse he shouldn't win. Such is betting, and we have some consolation that we are just giving back a little of the profits made so far this month.

Profit so far this month: 23.5 pts
